Maynooth, April 2026 — Amad Diallo has expressed strong support for Michael Carrick to be appointed as permanent manager at Manchester United.
Carrick was named interim boss in January following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Since taking charge, the former United and England midfielder has led the club to seven wins and only one defeat in ten matches, positioning them to challenge for a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence. United need four wins and a draw from their remaining seven fixtures to secure qualification.
While the club’s board has indicated it will not rush a permanent appointment, options for replacements are limited. Notably, Thomas Tuchel has committed to staying in England, and Roberto De Zerbi has chosen to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking from United’s four-day training camp in the Republic of Ireland, Amad Diallo praised Carrick’s experience and connection to the club.
“From a personal view, he’s the right man,” said the Ivory Coast international. “He has a lot of experience; he knows the club and has the DNA. His relationship with every player is very good. Sometimes this kind of manager can bring the club where they belong. It’s not the players who decide but my honest opinion is we’re really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager.”
Other players have echoed Amad’s sentiments. Striker Bryan Mbeumo commented: “We’ve got good experience with him. He knows how to talk to us, and we’re going to try to take as much as we can from him. It’s been easier because he knows the place. It’s been great to work under him.”
The strong rapport between Carrick and the squad on and off the field adds weight to calls for his permanent appointment once the season concludes.
