Ceasefire at Risk as Iran Stops Strait of Hormuz Traffic

The ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is in danger after new tensions in the region.

Strait of Hormuz Closed
Iran has stopped oil tanker traffic through the important Strait of Hormuz following an Israeli attack on Lebanon, according to Fars news agency. Only two tankers have passed since the ceasefire began.

Strikes in Lebanon
The Israeli army carried out its biggest strike in Lebanon since the war started, causing hundreds of casualties. President Donald Trump said these strikes were not part of the ceasefire deal.

Regional Tensions
Two Arab countries allied with the U.S. reported attacks by Iranian drones and missiles. U.S. forces are ready to respond if needed.

Peace Talks in Pakistan
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited U.S. and Iranian delegations to talks on Friday to discuss the ceasefire and a longer peace plan.

The ceasefire is still fragile and could be affected by these recent events.
