Chelsea Midfielder Moisés Caicedo Agrees New Long-Term Contract

Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo has agreed a new long-term contract extension that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, according to sources.

The 24-year-old Ecuador international joined Chelsea in 2023 from Brighton in a British-record transfer fee at the time, in a deal worth up to £115m. His move came after a major transfer battle involving several top clubs, including Liverpool, before he ultimately chose Chelsea.

Caicedo had already signed an eight-year contract when he arrived, but the new agreement is understood to include improved financial terms after his strong performances for the club over the past two seasons.

He played a key role in Chelsea’s recent success, helping the team win both the Conference League and the Club World Cup last season. His consistent performances in midfield have made him one of the most important players in the squad.

Last season, Caicedo was the only Chelsea player to start every Premier League match under the previous manager. He has continued that form this season, making 42 appearances and scoring five goals from a deep midfield role.

Chelsea view him as one of the top defensive midfielders in world football and a central figure in their long-term project. The club has also placed him among their leadership group, reflecting his growing influence in the squad.

The new deal is part of a wider strategy at Chelsea to reward key players with improved contracts based on performance and achievements. Captain Reece James has already signed a new agreement, while discussions are ongoing with other senior players.

Chelsea have also previously adjusted contracts for players like Cole Palmer, linking improvements to performance targets such as Champions League qualification and team success.

Caicedo recently dismissed speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid, saying he is fully focused on Chelsea and wants to become a club legend.

“I’m focused on my club right now. I want to be a legend,” he said during international duty.

Chelsea continue to negotiate contract renewals for several other players, including Enzo Fernández and Levi Colwill, as part of their long-term squad planning strategy.

The club has also faced external attention over player wages and contract structures, particularly after comments from Fernández’s representatives about salary expectations.

Despite ongoing speculation around some players, Chelsea remain committed to building a stable core squad as they aim to return to Champions League qualification through a top-five Premier League finish.

The team’s next challenge will be a high-profile match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, a key fixture in their push for European qualification.
