Iran has dismissed a proposal for a temporary ceasefire, escalating tensions with the United States as President Donald Trump pushes for the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Israel claims it has carried out targeted strikes that killed senior Iranian officials, further intensifying the conflict.
Ceasefire Efforts Collapse
A proposal backed by several countries calling for a 45-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has stalled after failing to gain full support from Washington. According to a White House official, President Trump has not approved the plan.
Iran has also rejected the idea of a temporary truce, signaling it is preparing a formal response to US demands aimed at ending the conflict. Officials in Tehran have made it clear that any resolution must address their broader conditions, not just a short-term pause in fighting.
Trump Issues New Deadline
President Trump has increased pressure on Iran by setting what appears to be a deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday. He warned that delays could lead to further action, emphasizing that “time is running out.”
Iranian authorities responded by warning that any attacks on critical infrastructure would have consequences beyond the region, raising fears of wider instability. Trump is also expected to speak publicly later today about the successful rescue of a US F-15 crew member whose aircraft was shot down over Iran.
Escalation on the Ground
Israel announced that it had killed two senior members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in separate strikes, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict.
At the same time, Israeli forces said they targeted a petrochemical facility in southwestern Iran. Iranian state media reported that overnight US-Israeli strikes on Tehran resulted in civilian casualties, including six children.
In retaliation, Iranian attacks hit Israel, with reports confirming that four people were killed when a residential building in Haifa was struck.
Growing Regional Risk
The latest developments highlight the increasing volatility of the situation, with diplomatic efforts faltering and military actions intensifying on multiple fronts. The Strait of Hormuz — a key global oil route — remains at the center of the crisis, and its continued disruption could have far-reaching economic and geopolitical consequences.
