An Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip has killed at least three Palestinians, according to local health officials, as ceasefire discussions continue between mediators and Hamas.
Medical sources said the strike hit a group of men outside a school in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah area. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident.
The latest violence comes as international mediators meet Hamas leaders in Cairo in an effort to strengthen a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that has been repeatedly tested by ongoing clashes.
Witnesses and relatives gathered at Al-Aqsa Hospital, where the bodies of the victims were brought. Family members described daily suffering under the fragile truce, saying civilians continue to be killed despite the ceasefire.
Health officials say more than 750 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began, while Israeli authorities report the deaths of several soldiers in separate incidents. Both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement.
The talks in Cairo involve mediators from Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, who are pushing for the next phase of the deal. Discussions reportedly include plans for Hamas to disarm gradually as part of a broader political settlement in Gaza.
However, Hamas officials have said that disarmament talks cannot progress without a full ceasefire and complete Israeli withdrawal from agreed areas.
Israeli officials, meanwhile, have warned they could return to full-scale military operations if Hamas refuses to lay down its weapons.
The conflict, which escalated after the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, has left tens of thousands dead and caused widespread destruction across Gaza, according to health authorities in the territory.
The situation remains highly unstable as both sides continue negotiations under intense international pressure.
