Leeds Set for Wembley Showdown Against Chelsea, Man City to Meet Southampton in FA Cup Semis

Leeds United are back in the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1987, and they’ll face Chelsea at Wembley after a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout win over West Ham. The thrilling tie ended 2-2 after extra time, sending Daniel Farke’s side through to the last four in front of thousands of travelling fans.

Meanwhile, last year’s runners-up Manchester City will take on Championship side Southampton, who shocked Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday to reach the semi-finals.

Leeds’ Rollercoaster Run

Leeds looked in control for much of their quarter-final, taking a 2-0 lead in regulation time thanks to a deflected opener from Ao Tanaka and a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty. But West Ham produced a stunning fightback, scoring twice in stoppage time through Mateus Fernandes and Axel Disasi to force extra time.

Extra time offered more drama, with Leeds holding firm despite West Ham having two goals ruled out for offside. In the ensuing penalty shootout, young keeper Lucas Perri saved from West Ham’s Joel Piroe, while Leeds’ Pascal Struijk converted the decisive spot-kick, sending the visitors to Wembley.

This marks Leeds’ first FA Cup semi-final appearance in 39 years, their last coming in 1987 when they lost 3-2 to Coventry City at Hillsborough. Their only FA Cup triumph remains the 1972 victory, and fans will hope history could repeat itself this season.

Manchester City vs Southampton

In the other semi-final, Manchester City will face Southampton. The Saints, whose only FA Cup success came in 1976, pulled off a shock 3-1 win over Arsenal to set up the clash with Pep Guardiola’s side. City, who were last year’s runners-up, will be looking to reach the final once again, but Southampton have proven they can punch above their weight.

FA Cup Semi-Final Schedule

  • Manchester City vs Southampton – Wembley, 25-26 April
  • Chelsea vs Leeds United – Wembley, 25-26 April

With Wembley beckoning, Leeds have a historic chance to reach their first FA Cup final in decades, while Chelsea and Manchester City will aim to continue their pursuit of silverware in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to this season’s competition.
