Texas investigates Lululemon over alleged “forever chemicals” in clothing

The Lululemon Athletica is facing an investigation in the U.S. state of Texas over claims that some of its activewear may contain so-called “forever chemicals,” according to state officials.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the probe will look into whether the company’s sportswear includes PFAS, a group of synthetic chemicals used in many consumer products but known for breaking down very slowly in the environment.

PFAS chemicals have raised health concerns in recent years, with researchers studying possible links to long-term health risks. Lululemon markets its products as high-performance and health-focused, which officials say raises questions about whether customers were properly informed.

The investigation will review the company’s testing standards, supply chain practices, and compliance with state safety regulations. Authorities say they want to determine whether any laws have been violated.

Lululemon has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.

The case comes amid growing scrutiny of PFAS chemicals in consumer goods, as regulators in the U.S. and other countries increase pressure on brands to reduce or eliminate their use.

Shares of Lululemon were slightly lower following the announcement, with the stock already down sharply so far this year due to weaker demand and broader market pressure.

The company has also faced recent challenges, including product complaints and internal shareholder tensions, adding further pressure on its performance.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have been made at this stage.
