UK Orders Security Review Over Mandelson Vetting Concerns

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ordered a new review into security concerns linked to the time of former UK ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson in office.

Starmer told lawmakers he was surprised that he had not been informed about issues involving Mandelson’s security vetting clearance, even after an earlier review was ordered.

He said the government’s security standards body will now examine how all national security vetting decisions were made, as well as any concerns raised during Mandelson’s time as ambassador to the United States.

The Prime Minister added that he had instructed the Cabinet Office security group to investigate all relevant security issues linked to Mandelson’s tenure.

The move comes amid growing scrutiny of how security checks are handled for senior diplomatic and government positions in the UK.

Starmer described the situation as concerning and said the review aims to ensure stronger and more transparent vetting procedures in the future.

The investigation is expected to assess whether any risks were missed and how the vetting system can be improved going forward.
