Deontay Wilder secured a hard-fought split-decision victory over Derek Chisora in a gruelling heavyweight contest at London’s O2 Arena.
Wilder was awarded the bout 115–111 and 115–113 on two scorecards, while the third judge scored it 115–112 in favour of Chisora. The result followed a physically demanding fight in which both men absorbed heavy punishment but lasted the full distance.
The contest began in chaotic fashion. In the opening round, both fighters became tangled in the ropes while continuing to exchange punches, briefly ignoring the referee’s instructions to break. The moment reflected the disorderly yet intense nature of the fight.
Chisora, fighting in his 50th professional bout, struggled to impose himself early on. His jab had little impact, while Wilder used his reach and timing to land the cleaner shots. However, Chisora found success in the fifth round, delivering a powerful overhand right that appeared to trouble Wilder and shift momentum.

Despite several moments where the fight seemed close to ending, Chisora showed notable resilience. Wilder, however, was unable to finish the contest. A point was later deducted from Wilder for pushing, and both fighters went to the canvas during untidy exchanges in the later rounds, though not all were ruled knockdowns.
As the fight progressed into the final rounds, fatigue became evident. Both men slowed but continued to trade heavy punches, drawing strong reactions from the crowd. The bout ultimately went the distance, with Wilder’s more effective and accurate work earning him the decision.
After the fight, Wilder praised Chisora and spoke about the importance of fighter safety, saying boxers must take responsibility for one another inside the ring.
The fight marked the 50th professional appearance for both men. Chisora had indicated beforehand that it could be his final bout, but he did not confirm his retirement afterwards, leaving uncertainty about his future.
If this proves to be his last fight, Chisora will be remembered for his durability and willingness to face top opponents. Over his long career, he shared the ring with leading heavyweights such as Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, and Anthony Joshua.
For Wilder, now 40, the victory represents one of his most notable results in recent years. Although no longer at his peak, he showed flashes of the power that once made him one of the most dangerous punchers in the division. The win could keep him in contention for future high-profile fights.
