Ex-Australia Star David Warner Charged with Drink-Driving in Sydney

Sydney, April 2026 — Former Australia international cricketer David Warner has been charged with drink-driving following an incident in Sydney, police have confirmed.

According to authorities in New South Wales, a 39-year-old man was stopped during a random breath test in the Maroubra area of eastern Sydney on Sunday. Officers reported that the driver returned a positive roadside result before being taken to a police station for further testing.

A second test allegedly recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.104—more than twice the legal limit permitted in the state.

Police said the vehicle had initially stopped short of the testing point before officers approached and conducted the check. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with a mid-range alcohol offence, which applies to readings between 0.08 and 0.149.

Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7.

The former opening batter retired from international cricket in 2024 after a career spanning 15 years, during which he made 383 appearances for Australia national cricket team across all formats.

He is currently involved in franchise cricket and is serving as captain of Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. His team is due to play Peshawar Zalmi in their upcoming fixture on April 9.
