Union Bordeaux Begles produced a strong second-half comeback to defeat Toulouse 30-15 in the Champions Cup quarter-final, securing a place in the semi-finals against Bath Rugby.
Toulouse looked the better side in the opening half and took a 12-5 lead into the break, with tries from Romain Ntamack and Teddy Thomas. Bordeaux’s only response before halftime came through a forward drive finished by Maxime Lamothe.
The turning point came when Toulouse were reduced in numbers. Dorian Aldegheri was shown a red card, and later, captain Antoine Dupont received a yellow card, leaving the visitors temporarily with 13 players.
Bordeaux took full advantage after the break. Matthieu Jalibert scored a key try to close the gap before Ben Tameifuna powered over to give the hosts the lead. Accurate kicking from Maxime Lucu helped extend their advantage.
As Toulouse struggled to recover, Bordeaux maintained control and sealed the result late on when Arthur Retiere crossed for the final try.
The win keeps Bordeaux’s title defence on track and continues the strong record of French clubs in the competition. They will now prepare for a semi-final showdown against Bath.
